Fine filtration, ordinarily applied as the final stage ahead of the product or process. A cartridge housing accommodates one or more replaceable elements and is normally installed downstream of a coarser filter, since cartridge media is not intended to carry a heavy solids loading. Where contamination is below approximately 100 ppm, cartridge filtration is the appropriate selection.
Single and multi cartridge housings are manufactured in simplex and duplex configuration, with cartridge count and length selected against the flow rate and the required change out interval.
Photograph of completed unitA cartridge housing accommodates one or more replaceable cartridges within a pressure vessel, sealed by an end fitting appropriate to the cartridge selected. Housings are specified as simplex or duplex, and cartridges are specified by their sealing arrangement.
A single housing accommodating one or more cartridges. The most economical configuration, applicable where the line may be isolated briefly for element change out.
Two housings with a changeover valve, permitting flow to continue through one chamber while cartridges are changed out in the other. Specified where the process cannot be interrupted.
Sealed against the housing at both ends using flat gaskets and an adaptor. A simpler, more economical fitting arrangement, suited to less critical duties.
Sealed at one end only through a fitting such as code 3, 5, 7 or 8, giving a more positive, bypass-free seal. The more common choice for process plants.
Where a stated range does not cover a particular requirement, equipment is engineered to the customer specification.

Stainless steel is the standard specification for pharmaceutical, fine chemical and sanitary duties, with an internal mirror polish offered where a clean, non-particulate-shedding finish is required. Carbon steel housings are supplied for general service and utility duties, and FRP or PP construction is offered where the process fluid calls for it. The cartridge element is selected independently of the housing material, against its own filtration and chemical compatibility criteria.
