Refineries and petrochemical facilities operate continuously, at elevated temperature and pressure, on fluids that expose any error in material selection. Filtration in this environment is directed less at achieving a fine cut point than at protecting high value rotating equipment without interrupting production.
This accounts for the prevalence of duplex configuration in the sector, and for the weight placed on documentation. Equipment supplied to refineries is ordinarily dispatched with material test certificates, an approved quality assurance plan and third party inspection records.

Body and element material are selected independently against the process fluid. Alloy steel and other grades are quoted where the duty requires.
